Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of progressive addition lenses on myopia progression of children. Methods: Children who live in Hoengseong country or Cheonan city with spherical refractive error between -0.50Dto -0.50D 00D wrer randomly assigned to wear Progressive Addition Lenses(PAL) or Single Vision Lenses(SVL). And we measured refractive error(cylcloplegic autorefraction) and, axial lengthe(IOL Master) at for every six months by using the RM 8800 and the IOL Master fos 2-years. Results: Between PAL group(42 subjects) and SVL group(38 subjects) that completed the 2-years study, significant differences wereas observed. First, the change of mean spherical equivalent in Pal group and SVL group was -0.85 ¡¾0.50D and -1.33 ¡¾0.61 Drespectively. Moreover, the change of Jo in PAL group was 0.06 ¡¾0.18D and that of Jo in SVL group was 0.17 ¡¾0.21D. The change of J45 in PAL group and SVL group wereas 0.01 ¡¾0.08D and 0.00 ¡¾0.11D respectively. Also, the change of axial length in PAL group was 0.45 ¡¾0.24 mm and that of SVL group was 0.67 ¡¾0.73 mm. Finally, there is a difference on myopic origression rate after six month(p=0.02), and it gradually increases as times goes by(0.00). Between PAL group and SVL group.the difference of mean spherical equivalent was 0.48D(p=0.00), and that of Jo was 0.11D(p=0.01). Those differences are statistically significant. However, the difference of J45 and that of axial length between two groups wereas 0.01D and 0.22 mm, and these are not statistically significant. Conclusions: Compared to SVL, myopia progression was found to be retarded by wearing PAL. Key words: Myopia, Progression, Progressive Addition Lenses.
